Rafiki the movie by famed Kenyan director Wanuri Kahiu premiered at the Cannes Film Festival to a standing ovation.
"Rafiki,” (Kiswahili for friend) is a lesbian love story directed by Wanuri Kahiu, set in the bustling Kenyan capital Nairobi. Rafiki is the first Kenyan film to be selected to screen at the Festival.
The film is an adaptation from the 2007 Caine Prize Winning short story "Jambula Tree" by Ugandan writer Monica Arac Nyeko.
