Field Marshall Dedan Kimathi Born Oct 31st, 1920.
Would have turned 98 years old Today.
Kimathi was the leader of the Mau Mau movement An armed military struggle know as the Man Man uprising, against the British colonial government in Kenya in the 1950's.
The British colonial government regarded him as a "terrorist".
He was arrested on Oct 21st, 1956 after a 4-year manhunt.
He was sentenced to death while laying in a hospital bed.
In the early morning of Feb 18th, 1957, he was executed by hanging.
He was buried in an unmarked grave, his burial site remains unknown till to this day.
On Feb 18th, 2007, a memorial statue was unveiled int he Nairobi central business district.
